Kael has been begging us forever to get a pet. He wants a dog, or a hamster, or a gerbil, or a cat, or a baby fossa, or a monkey or just about anything you could think of. We finally caved in and got the boys some fish. We went on a Saturday morning and got a tank, some supplies, and five fish. The boys were thrilled.....especially Kael.
Here comes the disaster part. Saturday....the very first day of the fish tank....one of the fish ate the other one. Kael was yelling at the fish and was EXTREMELY upset. So three hours into the fish tank and one fish down. Luckily the fish had a 14 day guarantee so the half eaten dead fish went into a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Lovely.
A couple of hours later Joseph was in the kitchen and I was in the bathroom with Owen who is pretending that he wants to be potty trained. Suddenly from the living room Kael yells....."AIDAN THREW A PLASTIC OCTOPUS IN THE FISH TANK!! AND NOW HE THREW MOM'S PHONE IN THERE!!!" Yes, to my horror my cell phone was in the bottom of the fish tank!! Let's just say I was really rethinking the new pet! We put the phone in a bowl of rice and the battery in a plastic bag with the "Do not eat" packet from some beef jerky. The phone survived, but the battery did not. I ordered a new one and after a couple of days my phone is as good as new.
Monday for FHE we headed to Petsmart to return the dead half of a fish and get a new one. We ended up getting two more fish and the boys were thrilled again. Now I would like to say that this was the end of the bad luck with the fish tank, but it wasn't. Tuesday after school Kael and his friend were in the house and I was out on the porch swing talking with my neighbor. Suddenly ShaeLee (Kael's friend) came running out the door and said "Um....Kael spilled the fish tank" "THE WHOLE THING??!!!" I asked in shock and horror. "YAH!" I ran in the house to find the 6 gallon fish tank upside down on the floor, water EVERYWHERE, and Kael sobbing and holding three of the six fish and screaming "I'M SORRY!! BUT I GOT THE FISH!!!!" I didn't even know where to start. So we grabbed a cup with some water to attempt to save the fish that were flopping about the living room. Luckily Joseph was on his way home. We sopped up water with towels and more towels, borrowed the neighbors shop vac, and the other neighbors carpet cleaner, but to no avail. The carpet was ruined and had to come up. It was pretty old anyway, but still! It's a good thing we pulled it up because under the carpet and the pad there was a big puddle of water left!!! And five of the six fish died. It was a bad day!
Isn't it awesome?? Good thing we are getting new carpet.
It's only in one little section of the living room too!
Don't worry.....we get new carpet on Friday!
And here are some pictures of my cute cute boys just being themselves!

That is quite the disaster! Your boys are so dang cute and I swear Aidan and Owen look more grown up everytime I see a picture! Guess what?! Only like 88 more days till you return :) :) Can you tell we miss you?
Thanks for the HUGE update!! It is so fun to see your pictures and hear about your adventures. I saw your thing on facebook about the fish/pet adventure and I was laughing so hard!! That is probably the only pet that we would even consider getting our kids..who knew it could result in getting new carpet!! Maybe I need to get one and spill the tank to get new carpet! :) Apartment carpet is disgusting!!
i can't believe all of that really happened! i think you more than earned you mom button that day. your boys are so cute! i love looking at all the photos of them.
This just reaffirms that I will not be getting any pets for my kids in the near or distant future! Love to see what you guys are up to.
I hope you plan to write a parenting book someday. You've had adventures raising your three boys that any other mom wouldn't have a clue how to handle. Thank heavens my three boys didn't do 90% of the things you get to experience with your boys on a normal day. Or maybe it's been so long ago that I've forgotten all their pranks. I'll bet you're glad two of them are in school now.
Crazy! I can totally see that happening to me. Are you going to replace the fish??? Good Luck if you do!
Haha! Those fish stories are awesome! I miss you guys and can't wait to see you again :)
No pets for us, thank you! But seriously, this was hilarious. Hope all is going well and that you get to enjoy the time you have when 2 of the 3 are in school!
